How to win at Valentine’s Day

When Erica asked me to write a guest post for her blog, I really wasn’t sure what I’d write about, since I’ve never blogged before.  I decided that with Valentine’s Day coming up it would be a good idea to write something about a guy’s perspective on this lady-centered holiday.

Although I don’t think anyone loves this holiday more than Hallmark, Erica comes in a very close second.  Since this is the case, I know that I can’t ignore the day completely.  I’m sure that there are a lot of other people out there in my position right now, and we need to put some effort into Valentine’s Day in order to make it a success…or at least keep the peace.

Even though we don’t care whether or not we get anything for Valentine’s Day, remember, that special other person does.  I am lucky that Erica loves baking and entertaining almost as much as she loves Valentine’s Day, so this year she decided to throw a party for some of our friends next weekend in honor of Valentine’s Day. So no dinner reservations to be made on a crazy busy night at restaurants.  That doesn’t mean that I get off the hook entirely.  I think my major contribution for Valentine’s Day this year will be the help that I can offer in making this party as big of a success as Erica’s parties always are.  The last thing that I need to remember is that I can’t call it quits after just helping with the party. Luckily, Erica has dropped a few “subtle” hints as to what she wants for Valentine’s Day so I don’t have to stress over that situation.

All in all, I think that this will be a nice Valentine’s Day for everyone.  Erica will get to have a great celebration with friends and I think I will come through relatively stress-free.  All it takes from a guy to make Valentine’s Day a success is to know that you aren’t in it for yourself, this day is all about the person you love.  As long as a little thought it given to it ahead of time Valentine’s Day can be satisfying for everyone and relatively stress free too.
