Weekend Highlights

What a productive and fantastic weekend! I managed to check a ton of stuff off of my to do list. I was also able to recharge my battery and get back to working out. Here are some highlights from my weekend:

1. Dinner at Raku

20120826-154953.jpg
Yes, my sushi roll was presented to me on fire. (how cool is that?)

20120826-155045.jpg
What it looked like when I unwrapped it

2. Sebastian Joes with friends

20120826-155302.jpg
Can you guess what I got?

3. Pure Barre Breaking Down the Barre class
I have been keeping an eye out for when this class would appear on the schedule. It was off Saturday morning. The class cost absolutely nothing and 75 minutes later I knew I had a better understanding of the thigh work, ab work, and seat work. YIPPEE!!👍

4. I made the CINNAMON TORTE from the Food For Show Cookbook. 13 layers and 3 hours later… Justin and I were very proud of ourselves.

Look at all those layers 😃

How was your weekend?

What I’m lovin- in August

Yippee for the weekend but boo to the icky bug I caught from the kiddos at school. I’m laying low this weekend and cleaning up my dvr.

Here are some recent things that I love (a bit random but I still love it):

20120819-115325.jpg

Since we rearranged the office I was certain Leo would lose his spot behind the bikes. Well, I was wrong. He has managed to cram himself back there.

20120819-115449.jpg

Obsessed does not even begin to describe how I feel about this drink. It reminds me of Clearly Canadian (which I loved as a kid). I don’t know how they do it but it tastes great and is simply sparkling spring water with a dash of juice. I haven’t tried the other favors yet but I will be checking them out soon!

20120819-115735.jpg

It took a while to find it but we finally found a wood paper towel holder. We keep buying metal and they keep rusting. Thank you to the Container Store. (I warned you this post was a bit random.)

20120819-120207.jpg

Justin found this for me and I think it fits pretty perfectly. He even framed it and hung it up in the kitchen above the sink. Now I just need a good lemon bar recipe.

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

NYC- part 4

🚕Saturday🚕

Our final day in NYC was the one that we travelled around the most. We were able to meet up with lots of our friends which was such a nice treat.

1. Breakfast- Doughnut Plant

20120816-154129.jpg

20120816-154200.jpg
The walls were decorated with giant plush doughnuts.

20120816-154253.jpg
Our friends Jaron and Natalie were in NYC at the same time as us. We had such a great time exploring the city with them on Saturday.

20120816-154425.jpg

20120816-154451.jpg
The doughnuts that the four of us tried. They were so yummy and not your traditional doughnut flavors. ( tres leches, creme brûlée, peach, Valrhona chocolate, cinnamon sugar, and oatmeal) My favorite was the Tres Leches.

2. Highline: A public park built on a freight rail line above the Manhattan West Side. The views were incredible. I could not believe all the gorgeous flowers we saw.

20120816-155807.jpg

20120816-155823.jpg

20120816-155839.jpg
We could even see the Statue of Liberty!

20120816-155854.jpg

3. Chelsea Market: Loved this place and had such a blast exploring the area!

20120816-160328.jpg

20120816-160356.jpg
I grabbed a couple of brownies from Fat Witch for our friends Rachel and Spencer. The Wicked brownie reminded me of Rachel because she loves the musical.

20120816-160718.jpg
We didn’t eat here but stopped for a photo.

20120816-160755.jpg

4. Lunch- Shake Shack
We met our friends Matthew and Catherine here. My Minneapolis friend, Naomi told me that I had to stop here. Great hamburgers and fries!

20120816-161239.jpg
5. Central Park

20120816-161831.jpg

20120816-161853.jpg
I tried to convince Justin to rent a row boat but he was not interested.

5. Dinner- Josie’s Restaurant

20120816-162500.jpg
I could not wait to meet up with my friend, Rachel. I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t seen her since Justin and my wedding. We had such a great night reminiscing about IU. I’m hoping I can convince her husband and her to come visit us in Minneapolis.

I have a feeling I am forgetting some more of the highlights from New York. It was an incredible trip and I am so happy that I got to go with Justin and his parents/ Gail and Bill. I could not have asked for better tour guides. I can’t wait to get all of the pictures printed and in some frames.

Erica

NYC- part 3… that rhymes

20120815-172751.jpg

I know the title of this post is cheesy but you know I’m a teacher and I just ❤ a good rhyme!

🚲Friday 🚲

I started my day off by grabbing a taxi (by myself… I’m not sure who is more proud of me… my mom or my husband) and heading to my first Soul Cycle class at the Union Square location. I made sure to call a week in advance and book my class and I am so glad I did. I learned from some other cyclers that the instructor, Marvin is great and that the class would be a blast and full since he hadn’t taught in a couple weeks. Now here is the real shocker… The whole trip I had been looking for Katie Holmes/ a famous person and had not seen anyone… Well you can imagine the excitement I felt when Nate Berkus walked into Soul Cycle and sat down 2 bikes from me (no, I did not get a picture and nope I did not go up and say hi… But yes, I did stare at him a bit.) I must say I am sad that there is no Soul Cycle in Minneapolis because I loved it and would go all the time.

20120815-172124.jpg
Dean and Deluca- I knew I wanted to stop here when Gail said we should go to SoHo. I bought Justin a sea salt chocolate chip cookie from their bakery and he loved it. I kept thinking about how fun it would be to make a basket of a bunch of their goodies for a housewarming gift or to take on a picnic.

20120815-172905.jpg

20120815-172917.jpg
Serendipity 3 had been a place I wanted to go to for a couple of years. I remember it appearing in the movies Serendipity and One Fine Day. It was a fun treat to share.

Have you ever had a celebrity sighting?

First trip to NYC: part 2

20120814-151526.jpg

1. Breakfast: Ess-a-Bagel
I tried to link to their website but for some reason I am not having luck with it. I had an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The bagels had a great texture and the cream cheese was full of yummy veggies. I would definitely suggest you check it out next time you are in New York.

20120814-152251.jpg
2. Museum: Museum of Modern Art
I really enjoyed seeing the exhibit on 6th floor that reminded me of aspects from my childhood. They had the map and globe from Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

20120814-152533.jpg

20120814-152555.jpg
My favorite piece. (from far away you would not know that it is paint brushes)

20120814-152915.jpg

3. Lunch: Banzo Bar
We stumbled upon this place and I am so happy we did. The best way to explain it is that it is a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. You pick either pita, wrap, salad. Next you pick your filling. I picked pita with falafel and a bunch of veggies.

20120814-154704.jpg
4. Snack: Magnolia Bakery
My cousin, Marcy suggested that I go here. My favorite was the s’more cupcake and Gail really liked the chocolate cupcake. I ended up buying a cookbook. I will definitely be making cupcakes soon. I can’t decide which ones to make first.

I’ll post part 3 tomorrow.

First trip to NYC: part 1

We have been back from New York for about 24 hours and I have managed to unpack, do four loads of laundry, and upload all of my pictures. I have not blogged in a bit but I wanted to make sure I was organized and had a clear idea of how I wanted to share my experience of visiting New York for the first time. I had been given suggestions from many coworkers, friends, and family members of what we should do while we were in NYC. I wrote them all down and researched a bit online and came up with a list of some spots that I knew I wanted to check out. This is how I saw NYC on our first day there.

🍎Wednesday🍎

1. Lunch: Ben’s Delicatessen …really yummy corned beef and great homemade pickles too!

20120813-202717.jpg

20120813-202737.jpg
2. Snack: Baked by Melissa…My favorite flavors were Cinnamon and Tie-Dye. I am going to try and recreate these treats soon for my friends.

20120813-203400.jpg

20120813-203429.jpg

3. Dinner: Pellegrino’s…Great restaurant in Little Italy! We met our friends Shai, Mathew, Catherine, and Meredith. This was my favorite meal from the whole trip. I had a mushroom risotto that was so yummy. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York.

Side Note- Gail (Justin’s mom) and I managed to explore 5th avenue a bit in the afternoon on Wednesday. I did not snap any photos while we were exploring. I was able to buy a Dior lip gloss while at Bloomingdales that is a brighter shade than I usually wear.

(still love looking at this picture)

***I’ll post on part 2 tomorrow.***

What are your favorite things to do in NYC?

I ❤ NY

I promise you many posts to come on my 1st trip to New York. We are here till Sunday. I will tell you that I have accomplished many things on this trip. Today I got a cab by myself and went to a Soul Cycle class.

I’ll leave you with the great view from our hotel room:

Good Time

20120806-120304.jpg

I was going to title this post as Freaked out, dropped my phone in the pool(owl city lyrics) but I changed it to the title of the song instead.
My weekend started off with my iPhone falling into the JCC pool on Friday morning while I was helping out with toddler swim. 60 minutes later after leaving the apple store I had a new iPhone. (moral of the story iPhones and pools do not mix well… It’s safe to say I learned my lesson.)

I relaxed Friday night and recovered from the traumatic experience of being iPhone-less for an hour (haha..I know it’s crazy that my phone has become somewhat of a security blanket)
Saturday night I celebrated my 28th birthday with my girlfriends. Thanks to Alli for organizing and planning my party at Buca di Beppo. It was so nice getting together with everyone. Summer is always a busy time and a lot of these girls I haven’t seen in a while. After Buca we went to Masa for drinks and I fell in love with their Mango Margarita (AMAZING).

I ended my weekend with being a part of a ketubah signing for my friends Alli and MIke. This was the second ketubah I have signed. The first one was at Justin and my wedding. I felt very honored to be a part of their special day.
Here are all my snaps from the weekend:

Corner Table

Thanks to my friend, Erin for a great recommendation for my birthday dinner last night. Justin made reservations for us for dinner at Corner Table.
When we walked in we were surprised that his friend Dan worked there. He brought us each a glass of Cava to start which we toasted with. He asked us what foods we liked and then we left it up to him to place our order. It was a great meal and we both can’t wait to return. Here are some snaps I took:

Hush Puppies (I hadn’t found these in Minneapolis until last night.)

20120802-143255.jpg
S’mores (I liked how there were two options one was already put together and one was deconstructed.)

20120802-143440.jpg
Justin loved the blueberry pannacotta. cotta.

Erica

28 is great!

20120801-132129.jpg

28 is great when you receive sweet Facebook messages, text messages, phone calls, cards and presents from friends and family.

I am not sure what to expect but can’t wait to take on the adventures that come my way.
